Product description
Tailor's shears built for the left hand: PRYM Professional, 21 cm
Tailor's shears from PRYM's Professional series designed specially for left-handed users, with an overall length of 21 cm (8 inches). In regular scissors, when you hold them in the left hand, the upper blade hides the cutting line and the pressure of the hand pushes the blades apart. Here the order of the blades is reversed, so the line stays visible and the blades are pressed toward each other while closing.
The blades are made of stainless steel, and the handle of plastic with soft inner rings. The scissors are made for PRYM by KAI, in the same series as the right-handed tailor's shears in 21 and 25 cm.
How this model differs from our similar models
PRYM Professional 21 cm for left-handed users (the model on this page): reversed blade order for the left hand
PRYM Professional 21 cm: the same length, for the right hand
PRYM Professional 25 cm: longer, for the right hand
Scissors with symmetrical handles: comfortable to grip in both hands, but the blades aren't adapted to the left hand
Common uses
Cutting patterns and fabrics with the left hand
Curves, necklines and corners
Home sewing and studio work
Light and medium fabrics
Repairs and alterations
Who the scissors are for
Left-handed seamstresses and tailors: a visible cutting line and blades that close correctly
Left-handed fashion students: a work tool that suits the hand
Schools and classes: a pair for left-handed users for every class; for quantity orders you can contact us
Tips for left-handed users
Hold the fabric to the right of the blade: this way the line is visible and there's no need to tilt your head
On curves, turn the fabric: and not the scissors
Fabric only: keep a separate pair for paper
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Using it in the right hand: the blades are built for the left hand, and in the right hand they will open away from each other
Cutting very thick layers: a longer blade is more suitable for that
Open storage: the edges get damaged
How to recognize genuine left-handed scissors
Not every pair of scissors marketed for left-handed users is really built for the left hand. In some models only the handle is symmetrical or in a different color, but the order of the blades remains as in right-handed scissors, and the problem remains.
The check: hold the scissors in cutting position. In left-handed scissors the left blade is above the right blade
What this changes: when closing with the left hand, the thumb presses the blades toward each other, and the cut is clean
Right-handed scissors in the left hand: the pressure pushes the blades apart, the fabric gets caught between them instead of being cut, and the upper blade hides the line
In this model the order of the blades is actually reversed, so someone cutting with the left hand sees the line and gets a clean cut.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Left-handed scissors - what is the difference from regular scissors?
The order of the blades is reversed: the left blade is on top. That way, in the left hand the blades press together and the cutting line stays visible. Regular scissors in the left hand open slightly while closing, and the fabric gets caught between the blades.
What is the length of the scissors?
The total length is 21 cm, which is 8 inches.
Can I use them with my right hand?
Not recommended. The blades are built for the left hand, and in the right hand they tend to spread apart while cutting.
What are the blades made of?
Stainless steel. The handle is plastic with soft inner rings.
Who makes the scissors?
PRYM, manufactured by the Japanese KAI.
What is the difference between these and scissors with symmetrical handles?
Symmetrical handles are comfortable to grip in both hands, but the blade order stays right-handed. Here the blades are also adapted to the left hand.
Which fabrics are they suitable for?
For light and medium fabrics such as cotton, linen, viscose and jersey.
Can I cut pattern paper with them?
Not recommended. Paper dulls the blade faster than fabric.
How do you keep the sharpness?
Cut fabric only, wipe after use, add a drop of oil to the screw and store closed.
Can I order several pairs for a class?
Yes. For bulk orders you can contact us.
