Product description
Narrow Transparent Cutting Ruler 10×45 cm
A transparent cutting ruler measuring 10×45 cm, with a full grid of lines and angle lines of 30, 45 and 60 degrees. The lines and numbers are printed in black, with a full grid along the whole length of the ruler. The ruler is long and narrow: the 45 cm length covers the width of folded fabric in most cases, and the 10 cm width keeps it light and comfortable to hold.
A ruler like this is used in sewing and quilting for measuring, marking, and as a guide for a rotary cutter. The transparency lets you see the fabric or pattern paper under the ruler, and place the lines exactly on the fabric edge, a seam line or an earlier mark.
Common uses
Cutting squares, rectangles and strips for quilting and patchwork.
Cutting bias tape and diagonal strips along the 45-degree line.
Adding an even seam allowance along pattern lines.
Marking pleat lines, hems and pockets on fabric.
Straightening the fabric edge before cutting, at a right angle to the selvage.
Who it is for
Home sewers, quilters, fashion and textile design students, sewing classes and seamstresses who work with a rotary cutter. For wholesale orders for a school, studio or shop: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
Professional tips
Place the ruler so the marking line sits exactly on the edge of the fabric, not on the frayed edge threads.
When cutting with a rotary cutter, press on the ruler with an open palm, keep your fingers away from the edge, and cut in one motion away from your body.
Read the measurement from above, at a right angle to the ruler. Looking from the side shifts the line by a few millimeters.
Work on a dedicated cutting mat. Cutting on a table damages both the blade and the table.
Common mistakes
Cutting with scissors right against the edge of the ruler. The scissors chip the acrylic edge.
Ironing next to or over the ruler. Heat warps acrylic and erases markings.
Measuring diagonal strips without using the 45-degree line. Use the angle line printed on the ruler.
Cleaning with alcohol or solvent. The markings come off. Water and a soft cloth are enough.
How this ruler differs
This is the long, narrow ruler in the series. With the 15×30 and 15×25 rulers it is easier to cut squares and small pieces, while this ruler is better for long strips, bias tape and lines along a pattern.
All the transparent cutting rulers, in different sizes and marking colors, are at Cutting and Quilting Rulers. For drawing pattern curves see Curve Rulers, and for right angles Square Rulers.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
What are the ruler's dimensions?
10 cm wide and 45 cm long.
Why a long, narrow ruler?
The length lets you cut a long strip in one motion, and the narrow width keeps the ruler light and easy to handle with one hand.
Can I cut strips along folded fabric with it?
Yes. Fold the fabric across its width, place the ruler perpendicular to the fold, and cut strips of the width you want using the grid.
What is the difference between it and the 15×30 ruler?
It is 15 cm longer and 5 cm narrower. The 15×30 ruler is handy for squares and details, and the 10×45 ruler for long lines and strips.
Does it have angle lines?
Yes, lines at 30, 45 and 60 degrees for diagonal cutting.
Can I cut along the ruler with a rotary cutter?
Yes. The ruler is designed for use with a rotary cutter on a cutting mat. Hold the blade against the ruler's edge and press down on the ruler with your other hand.
How do I clean an acrylic ruler?
With water and a soft cloth. Do not use alcohol, acetone or solvents, which can erase the markings.
What are the 30, 45 and 60 degree lines for?
For cutting diagonal strips, such as bias tape, and for cutting triangles and diamonds in quilting. Place the angle line on the fabric edge and cut along the ruler's edge.
How do I take care of the ruler?
Store it flat or hanging, away from heat and direct sunlight, so it does not warp.
Can I buy a quantity for a school or a class?
Yes. For wholesale orders for a school, studio or shop: call 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
