Product description

Tailor's shears in five lengths: choose the blade that suits the job

Professional tailor's shears with a hardened steel blade and ergonomic handles, in five lengths: 8 in. (20 cm), 9 in. (23 cm), 10 in. (25.5 cm), 11 in. (28 cm) and 12 in. (30 cm). The black handles are available in all five lengths, and the red ones in 10, 11 and 12 in.

An identical structure in all lengths (a strong joint screw, a long blade and a raised handle) lets you choose by the job: a short length for control on curves, and a long length for cutting straight lines, thick fabrics and layers. The scissors come in a box.

How this model differs from our similar models

  • Tailor's shears 8–12 in. (the model on this page): Five lengths, black or red handles

  • Tailor's shears: Three lengths, asymmetric black handle

  • Tailor's shears with gold handles: Heavy metal handles

Common uses

  • Cutting garment fabrics of all weights

  • Denim, wool and thick fabrics in the longer lengths

  • Curves and details in the shorter lengths

  • Layers of fabric in a workshop

  • Everyday studio work

Who the scissors are for

  • Tailors and workshops: A length for every work station

  • Home seamstresses: The 8–9 in. length for comfortable control

  • Fashion schools: For quantity orders you can contact us

How to choose a length

  • 8–9 in. (20–23 cm): Light and comfortable for curves and small hands

  • 10 in. (25.5 cm): The common length for cutting whole patterns

  • 11–12 in. (28–30 cm): For long lines, thick fabrics and layers

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Choosing a length that is too long for delicate work: A long blade is less precise in small corners

  • Cutting paper with the fabric scissors: Dulls the blade

  • Damp or open storage: Wipe and store closed and dry

Which length to choose: a short guide by type of work

  • 8 in. (20 cm): Curves, children's clothing, necklines and armholes, and small hands

  • 9 in. (23 cm): A middle length for varied home sewing

  • 10 in. (25.5 cm): The common length for cutting whole patterns of adult clothing

  • 11 in. (28 cm): Thick fabrics, denim and coats, and cutting two layers

  • 12 in. (30 cm): Long straight lines, curtains and upholstery fabrics, and work on a large cutting table

The longer the scissors, the heavier they are too. Someone who cuts for hours at a stretch will feel the difference, so in a studio it is convenient to keep a long length for patterns and a short length for details.

Frequently asked questions

In which lengths do the scissors come?

In five lengths: 8 inches (20 cm), 9 inches (23 cm), 10 inches (25.5 cm), 11 inches (28 cm) and 12 inches (30 cm).

What colors do the handles come in?

Black in all five lengths, and red in the 10, 11 and 12 inch lengths.

What length suits a beginner sewer?

8 or 9 inches. They are light and comfortable for controlling curves.

What length suits thick fabrics?

11 or 12 inches. A long blade passes easily through denim, wool and layers of fabric.

What is the blade made of?

Hardened steel.

Are the scissors sold as a set?

The scissors are sold individually, and you choose the length and color.

Are they suitable for left-handed users?

They are built for the right hand.

Can leather be cut with them?

Thin leather - yes, in the longer lengths. For thick leather, a dedicated tool is better.

When do tailor's shears need to be sharpened?

When the scissors start to chew the fabric instead of cutting it, or when the tip does not cut all the way. Sharpening is done by a professional sharpener, and between sharpenings, keep them for fabric only and wipe them after use.

Can I order a quantity for a workshop?

Yes. For bulk orders you can contact us.
