Product description
Transparent Acrylic Cutting Ruler 15×30 cm
A transparent cutting ruler measuring 15×30 cm, with a full grid and 30, 45 and 60-degree angle lines. The lines and numbers are printed in black, with a dense square grid and half-centimetre lines. The ruler is made of clear acrylic 2.8 mm thick and weighs about 146 grams. This thickness gives the blade of the rotary cutter a stable wall to run along.
This kind of ruler is used in sewing and quilting for measuring, marking and as a guide for a rotary cutter. Being transparent, it lets you see the fabric or pattern paper underneath and line the markings up exactly with the fabric edge, a seam line or an earlier mark.
Common uses
Cutting squares, rectangles and strips for quilting and patchwork.
Cutting bias binding and diagonal strips along the 45-degree line.
Adding an even seam allowance along pattern lines.
Marking pleat lines, hems and pockets on fabric.
Squaring the fabric edge before cutting, perpendicular to the selvedge.
Who it is for
Home sewists, quilters, fashion and textile design students, sewing classes and sewists who work with a rotary cutter. For a wholesale order for a school, studio or shop: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
Professional tips
Place the ruler so the marking line sits exactly on the fabric edge, not on the loose, frayed threads.
When cutting with a rotary cutter, press on the ruler with an open palm, fingers well away from the edge, and cut in one motion away from your body.
Read the measurement from above, at a right angle to the ruler. Looking from the side shifts the line by a few millimetres.
Work on a dedicated cutting mat. Cutting on a table damages both the blade and the table.
Common mistakes
Cutting with scissors right against the edge of the ruler. The scissors chip the acrylic edge.
Ironing next to or over the ruler. Heat warps acrylic and erases the markings.
Measuring diagonal strips without using the 45-degree line. Use the angle line printed on the ruler.
Cleaning with alcohol or solvent. The markings come off. Water and a soft cloth are enough.
How this ruler is different
There are two 15×30 cm cutting rulers on the site. In this ruler the markings are black only, with a dense grid and thin lines, while in the other the lines are yellow and black and it has a hanging hole. Anyone who works mainly on light fabrics and pattern paper will usually prefer the black markings.
All the transparent cutting rulers, in different sizes and marking colours, are in Cutting & Quilting Rulers. For drawing pattern curves see Curve Rulers, and for right angles see Square Rulers.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
What are the ruler's dimensions and thickness?
15×30 cm, 2.8 mm thick.
How much does the ruler weigh?
About 146 grams.
What is it made of?
Clear acrylic.
What is the difference between it and the 15×30 ruler with yellow markings?
The dimensions are identical. Here the marking is black only, with thin lines, while on the other ruler the lines are yellow and black.
Why does the thickness of a cutting ruler matter?
A thick enough ruler gives the blade a wall to work along. With a thin ruler the blade can ride up over it and damage the ruler or your hand.
Can I cut along the ruler with a rotary cutter?
Yes. The ruler is designed for use with a rotary cutter on a cutting mat. Hold the blade against the ruler's edge and press down on the ruler with your other hand.
How do I clean an acrylic ruler?
With water and a soft cloth. Do not use alcohol, acetone or solvents, which can erase the markings.
What are the 30, 45 and 60 degree lines for?
For cutting diagonal strips, such as bias tape, and for cutting triangles and diamonds in quilting. Place the angle line on the fabric edge and cut along the ruler's edge.
How do I take care of the ruler?
Store it flat or hanging, away from heat and direct sunlight, so it does not warp.
Can I buy a quantity for a school or a class?
Yes. For wholesale orders for a school, studio or shop: call 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
