Product description
One dress form for a whole range of plus sizes
A fixed dress form represents only one size. Someone sewing for clients in sizes 48–54 usually needs several forms, or pads a small form until it approaches the size. With the Prymadonna in size L from PRYM, you adjust the form itself: the bust, waist and hip circumference is set with adjustment wheels, each area separately, until the form matches the measurements of the specific client.
The body is divided into 8 parts that move apart or closer with the wheels. In total there are 13 adjustment points at the neck, bust, waist, hips and torso length. On each wheel there is a scale in centimeters and inches, so you adjust by number and not by eye. The back length, from the nape to the waistline, is also adjustable. This is especially important for plus sizes, where torso length varies from woman to woman no less than the circumferences.
The cover is made of nylon padded with a foam layer, so you can stick pins into it, fix fabric and mark lines. The shoulders are anatomically shaped, so that a sleeve falls on them as on a real shoulder. Around the neck there is an adjustable ring with a built-in pin cushion, and the form is mounted on a stable plastic stand with four legs.
Common uses
Fittings and alterations for clients in plus sizes: you adjust the form to the client's measurements and work on the garment between appointments, without summoning her for every stage.
Checking the cut before final sewing: baste the garment, put it on the form and check the drape, side seams and shoulder line.
Marking skirt and dress hems: with the included hem marker you set a straight, uniform hemline from the floor.
Evening dresses and occasion wear: working on corsets, dresses and fitted garments where every centimeter in the bust and waist changes the result.
Sewing and design studies: one form that fits several sizes within the range, for practice and demonstration.
Who the form is for
Seamstresses and garment alterers who work with clients in sizes 48–54 approximately, designers developing plus-size collections, bridal and evening salons that fit a dress to each client, sewing studios and schools, and also home seamstresses who want a form in exactly their own measurements. For schools, studios and stores ordering several units, we are a direct importer and also sell wholesale. For details contact us on WhatsApp 055-2473993.
How to tell size L from the other sizes in the series
Prymadonna is made in four sizes, and each covers a different range. This page presents size L, the largest in the series. It's worth choosing this size only if your clients' measurements fall within its range:
XS: bust 76–91, waist 56–71, hips 79–94 cm
S: bust 84–100, waist 66–84, hips 91–109 cm
M: bust 100–116, waist 82–99, hips 104–122 cm
L: bust 112–127, waist 94–109, hips 119–132 cm
Between M and L there is an overlap in the bust (112–116 cm). If most of your work falls in the overlap range, choose by hip circumference, where the difference between the sizes is clearer.
Professional tips
Measure the client without added ease. You adjust the form to the body measurements themselves. The allowance for comfort is already in the pattern, and if you add it to the form as well, the garment will come out too wide.
After adjusting, measure again with a tape measure. The scale on the wheel is a good starting point. Measuring with a tape around the form confirms that the circumference is accurate.
Adjust the torso length first and only then the circumferences. When the waistline is at the right height, the bust and hip measurements are taken in the right place.
Record the settings for each regular client. A card with seven or eight numbers saves re-measuring next time.
At full extension, cover the form. At the upper end of the range, gaps open between the parts. A fitted knit cover over the form smooths the surface and keeps the fabric from sinking into the gaps.
Insert pins at an angle. Beneath the foam layer there is a plastic body, so a pin that goes in at a sharp angle holds better than one stuck in straight.
Common mistakes
Turning a wheel past the end of the range. When the wheel stops, you've reached the limit. If you continue by force, the mechanism may be damaged. A client whose measurements are outside the range of L needs a different size or dedicated padding.
Adjusting while the garment is still on the form. A garment in place changes the circumference and misleads the measurement. Adjust while the form is bare, and only then dress it.
Choosing a size by garment size alone. A size 50 from one manufacturer isn't the same as a size 50 from another. Choose by centimeters of bust, waist and hips.
Fitting trousers on the form. This model ends at the hips and isn't intended for work on trousers. It suits skirts, dresses, shirts, jackets and coats well.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of the Prymadonna dress form in size L?
The bust circumference adjusts between 112 and 127 cm, the waist between 94 and 109 cm and the hips between 119 and 132 cm. The range corresponds approximately to garment sizes 48–54. Each area adjusts separately, and the torso length from the nape to the waist also changes.
Can I stick pins into the form?
Yes. The form is covered with nylon padded with a layer of foam, which grips pins and lets you secure fabric and mark lines. It is worth inserting the pins at an angle and not straight, because there is a plastic body under the foam. There is also a built-in pin cushion at the neck.
How do you adjust the form to a client's measurements?
Measure the client without adding ease, and then turn the adjustment dials to the desired number on the scale. First adjust the torso length, then the bust, waist and hips, and finally verify each circumference with a tape measure. The form has 13 adjustment points.
What is the difference between size L and the other Prymadonna sizes?
L is the largest size in the series: bust 112–127 cm. In size M the bust is 100–116 cm, in S it is 84–100 cm and in XS it is 76–91 cm. The structure, the materials and the number of adjustment points are identical in all sizes; the difference is only in the size range.
Is the form suitable for sewing trousers?
No. The model ends at the hips and isn't intended for pattern-making trousers. It suits dresses, skirts, shirts, jackets and coats, and thanks to the included hem marker it also suits marking hems of skirts and dresses.
Is an adjustable dress form worth the investment?
For someone sewing for several people or for a changing size, yes. One form with a size range replaces several fixed forms, and Prymadonna in size L covers a bust circumference of 112 to 127 cm.
What is the difference between an adjustable dress form and a fixed-size form?
In an adjustable form, you expand or reduce the body with adjustment dials, and small gaps form between the parts. In a fixed-size form the body is continuous, which is more convenient for precise draping. Prymadonna suits someone who needs flexibility in sizes.
How do I use a dress form to fit a garment?
Adjust the form to the client's measurements according to the scale in centimeters, put the garment on and check where it needs to be taken in or let out. Mark the changes with pins or chalk on the garment itself.
How do I measure the body before adjusting the form?
Measure the bust circumference at the fullest point, the waist circumference at the narrowest point and the hip circumference at the widest point, with a tape measure that is snug but not tight. Measure the torso length from the nape to the waistline.
What do you do if some of the measurements are outside the form's range?
If the client is smaller than the range, choose a form in a smaller size and add padding in the wide areas. A dress form can be enlarged with padding, but it can't be made smaller.
