Product description

Prym Sewing Machine Needles – Size 90

Prym universal needles in size 90, 5 needles per box. A medium-thick needle for medium and heavy fabrics. The needles come in a clear Prym plastic box, 5 needles per pack.

According to Prym, the point of these needles is slightly rounded, and they suit most woven fabrics: cotton, linen and fine curtain fabrics, as well as light and heavy fabrics depending on size. The shank is flat, and they are designed for all standard home machines.

The needle system

The 130/705H system, also called HAx1 or 15x1, is the system used by most home sewing machines: Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota, home Juki models and more. The needle shank has a flat side, which on most machines faces the back, so the needle cannot be inserted the wrong way round. Industrial machines use other systems, such as DBx1, so these needles do not fit them. Home overlock and coverstitch machines sometimes use a special version of the system, so check your machine manual.

Common uses

  • Linen, gabardine, light wool and corduroy.

  • Curtains, tablecloths and home fabrics.

  • Two or three layers of medium fabric.

  • Topstitching with regular thread.

Who it is for

Home sewers, fashion students, sewing classes and alteration shops that work with a home machine. For wholesale orders: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.

Pro tips

  • Sew a few centimeters on a scrap of the same fabric before starting.

  • Change the needle at the start of every project and right after hitting a pin.

  • Keep used needles in a separate compartment and do not mix them with new ones.

Common mistakes

  • One needle for all fabrics. Choose the size by the thickness of the fabric.

  • Sewing thin jersey with a universal needle. Knits call for a ballpoint tip.

  • Sewing over pins. The needle gets damaged and may break.

How to choose a size

The number on the needle is its thickness in hundredths of a millimeter. The higher the number, the thicker the needle:

  • 60/8: very fine fabrics: chiffon, organza, fine silk and microfiber.

  • 70/10–75/11: fine, light fabrics: silk, lining, fine viscose and fine cotton.

  • 80/12: light to medium fabrics: cotton, poplin, viscose, crepe and bed linen.

  • 90/14: medium to heavy fabrics: linen, gabardine, light wool and corduroy.

  • 100/16: heavy fabrics: denim, canvas, upholstery fabrics and coats.

All machine needles, including Prym, ORGAN and knit-fabric needles, are in Home Sewing Machine Needles. For a full needle selection guide, see Needles.

Which fabrics is a size 90 needle suitable for?

Linen, gabardine, light wool, corduroy and curtain fabrics.

Is a size 90 needle suitable for jeans?

For thin jeans, yes. For thick jeans and for hems, 100 is better.

What is the difference between 90 and 80?

90 is thicker and suits medium and heavy fabrics. 80 suits cotton and light fabrics.

What does slightly rounded point mean?

This is the universal point, which suits most woven fabrics.

Which machines are the needles suitable for?

Most home sewing machines that work with the 130/705H system (HAx1 or 15x1): Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota and more. They are not suitable for industrial machines.

How many needles come in the pack?

5 needles per pack.

How often should I change a sewing machine needle?

At the start of every project, whenever you switch to a different type of fabric, and right after the needle has hit a pin, zipper or button. A click with every stitch, skipped stitches or breaking thread are signs that the needle is dull.

How do I insert a needle into a home machine?

Lower the presser foot, raise the needle to its highest point and loosen the clamp screw. Insert the needle all the way up, with the flat side of the shank facing back in most machines, and tighten the screw.

Can I buy a quantity for a business or a school?
