Product description

ORGAN Universal Needles – Assorted Sizes Pack

Home sewing machine needles by ORGAN, a Japanese needle maker from Ueda in Nagano Prefecture. The needles use the 130/705H system with a universal point, slightly rounded and suitable for most woven fabrics. 5 needles per pack. The pack contains four sizes: 70/10, 80/12, 90/14 and 100/16, so there is a suitable needle for thin, medium and thick fabric.

Needle system: will it fit your machine?

The 130/705H system, also called HAx1 or 15x1, is the system used by most home sewing machines: Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota, home Juki and more. The needle shank has a flat side that faces the back on most machines, so the needle cannot be inserted the wrong way round. Industrial machines use other systems, such as DBx1, so these needles do not fit them. Home overlockers and coverstitch machines sometimes use a special version of the system, so check the machine manual.

Common uses

  • Starter set for a new machine.

  • Switching between different fabrics in the same project.

  • Students and beginners who do not yet know which fabrics they will sew.

  • A spare needle in every size in the sewing bag.

Who it is for

Beginners and owners of a new machine, fashion students, sewing classes, and anyone who sews different types of fabric. For wholesale orders: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.

Professional tips

  • Sew a few centimeters on a scrap of the same fabric before starting, and check the seam on both sides.

  • Match the thread to the needle: the thread should pass freely through the eye and the groove along the needle.

  • Put used needles in a separate compartment in the package; do not mix them with new ones.

Common mistakes

  • Sewing with the same needle for many months. A dull needle pulls threads and skips stitches.

  • Using a universal needle on thin, stretchy knit fabric. Such fabrics need a ballpoint needle.

  • Sewing over pins. The needle hits the pin and breaks or bends.

How to choose a size

The first number is the needle thickness in hundredths of a millimeter, and the second is the American number. The higher the number, the thicker the needle and the heavier the fabric it suits:

  • 70/10: Thin fabrics: chiffon, organza, silk, lining and fine cotton.

  • 80/12: Light and medium fabrics: cotton, poplin, viscose, crepe and bed linen. The range for most jobs.

  • 90/14: Medium and heavy fabrics: linen, gabardine, light wool, corduroy and curtain fabrics.

  • 100/16: Heavy fabrics: denim, canvas, upholstery fabrics, coats and thick layers.

You can find all ORGAN sizes, and needles for knit fabrics, in Home Sewing Machine Needles. A full needle selection guide is at Needles.

Frequently asked questions

Which sizes are in the pack?

70/10, 80/12, 90/14 and 100/16, a total of 5 needles.

Who is the mixed-size pack suitable for?

For a new machine, for beginners and for anyone who sews different fabrics. There is a needle for thin fabric, medium fabric and thick fabric.

How do you identify the size of each needle?

The size is engraved on the needle shank, and also appears on the box under each needle. It's worth returning each needle to its place.

Which needle in the set suits denim?

100/16. For medium fabrics such as linen, 90/14 is suitable.

Which needle in the pack suits chiffon?

70/10, the thinnest in the pack.

Which machines are the needles suitable for?

Most home sewing machines that work with the 130/705H system (HAx1 or 15x1): Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota and more. They are not suitable for industrial machines.

How many needles come in the pack?

5 needles per pack.

How often should a sewing machine needle be replaced?

At the start of every project, whenever you switch to a different type of fabric, and right after the needle hits a pin, a zipper or a button. A click with every stitch, skipped stitches or a thread that breaks are signs that the needle is dull.

How do I insert a needle into a home machine?

Lower the presser foot, raise the needle to its highest point and loosen the clamp screw. Insert the needle all the way up, with the flat side of the shank facing back in most machines, and tighten the screw.

Can I buy a quantity for a business or a school?

Yes. For wholesale orders: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
