This display mannequin is built like a classic dress form, only in a child's dimensions. It has a smooth egg head with no facial features, a torso body covered in fabric in a natural linen shade, articulated arms in a wood tone, a dark metal pole and a round wood-tone base with a turned neck. The look is soft and quiet, and it leaves the stage to the garment itself: the colour, the print and the pattern stand out more against a neutral background.

The egg head gives the mannequin the presence of a child without looking like a toy, and you can put a hat, a beanie or a hair accessory on it and show a complete look. The body reaches down to the hip line, so shirts, sweaters, short dresses, coats and tops sit on it naturally, and the waist line is clearly visible.

Arms that move like a child's

The arms have joints at the shoulder, elbow and wrist. You can bend one arm forward and leave the other along the body, or give the mannequin another pose that suits the window. The practical advantage: dress it in a long-sleeved shirt or a coat without stretching the fabric, and only then bend the arm into the pose you want. Professional tips

• Choose a size by the height range on the garment label. A garment labelled for a height of 110 cm, for example, falls between the age 4 and age 6 sizes, and then the decision is made by the cut.
• Compare the mannequin's bust circumference with the garment too. A fitted shirt in a size that is too small won't close nicely, and a garment that is too big will look loose.
• In a display of several mannequins, it's worth mixing sizes. A 2-year-old next to an 8-year-old creates depth and a natural family look.
• Before dressing, lower the arms along the body, and only when the garment is in place bend them into the pose.
• The fabric's neutral tone flatters strong colours and prints. For garments in cream or beige, add a layer in a contrasting colour so the garment doesn't disappear into the background.
• Keep the mannequin out of direct sun for long periods, to preserve the colour of the fabric and the wood-tone parts.

Common mistakes

• Choosing by age alone: children of the same age differ greatly in height and build. It's better to choose by the height range and the bust circumference in the table.
• Confusing the height range with the mannequin's height: the range in the table describes the height of the child the clothes fit, not the mannequin's overall height on its base.
• Forcing the dressing: pulling a narrow sleeve over a bent arm strains the joints. Straighten the arm first.
• Expecting to show full trousers: the body ends at the hip line, so long trousers won't be seen in full on it. On the torso, show mainly the upper part of the look, dresses and short skirts.
