Product description

Professional thread snips: a cut with one squeeze, close to the seam

Thread snips from the PRYM Professional series, 12 cm long. Instead of putting your fingers into holes, you squeeze the handle and the blades close, and when you release they open again. That way you cut a thread at the end of a seam in a single motion, without putting down the fabric and without hunting for scissors on the table.

The blades are made of rust-resistant stainless steel, and the ergonomic handle is made of two materials, rigid and soft, that are comfortable to hold even through hundreds of cuts in a workday. The snips come with a protective cover that closes over the sharp tip.

How this model differs from our similar models

  • PRYM Professional 12 cm (the model on this page): Professional thread snips with an ergonomic handle

  • Orange thread snips: Metal construction with a light handle, for everyday use

  • bbb thread snips with an orange sheath: Classic metal snips with a protective sheath

  • Thread snips with a red sheath: Classic metal snips with pointed blades

Common uses

  • Cutting threads at the end of a seam on a sewing machine

  • Working with a serger

  • Cleaning threads on a finished garment

  • Embroidery and handwork

  • Production and packing lines

Who the scissors are for

  • Professional seamstresses: Next to the machine, for hundreds of cuts a day

  • Sewing factories: For cleaning threads on the production line

  • Embroiderers: For quick cutting of threads

  • Notions stores: For quantity orders you can contact us

Tips for working with thread snips

  • Hold in your hand while sewing: The snips are light enough to keep in your palm and cut right away

  • Cut with the tip: That way you get in close to the fabric without damaging it

  • Only for threads: For fabric and paper, use regular scissors

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Cutting thick fabric: Thread snips aren't meant for that

  • Leaving them open on the table: The tip is exposed and may get damaged

  • Metal wire and thick nylon: Damage the sharpness

Thread snips or embroidery scissors: what's the difference

Both tools are small and cut thread, so it's easy to confuse them:

  • Thread snips: Close with a squeeze of the palm and open by themselves. Quick and convenient next to the machine, when cutting many threads in a row

  • Embroidery scissors: With finger rings and an especially thin tip. They give more precise control when cutting close to the fabric, in hand embroidery and in small corners

  • What they share: Both are meant for threads and short cuts, not for cutting fabric

Someone who sews on a machine will mainly use thread snips, and someone who embroiders by hand will prefer embroidery scissors. Many seamstresses keep both.

Frequently asked questions

What is the length of the thread snips?

The total length is 12 cm.

How do thread scissors work?

Press the handle and the blades close on the thread. When you release, they open again for the next cut.

What are the blades made of?

Rust-resistant stainless steel.

What is the advantage over regular scissors?

There is no need to put your fingers into holes, so you cut faster and without putting the fabric down.

Who is the manufacturer?

PRYM, a German brand of sewing equipment. The scissors belong to its Professional series.

Do the scissors come with a protective cover?

Yes. A protective cover closes over the sharp edge and protects it and your hands when the scissors are in the sewing box or in a bag.

Are PRYM thread snips suitable for left-handed users?

Yes. You grip them in the palm and squeeze, with no finger holes, so they are comfortable in both the right and left hand.

Which threads can be cut with them?

Sewing, overlock and embroidery threads, and thin knitting yarns. It's not worth using them on metal threads and thick nylon, because they wear down the sharpness.

What is the difference between thread snips and embroidery scissors?

Thread snips close with a squeeze and open by themselves, so they are quick next to the machine. Embroidery scissors with rings and a fine tip give more precise control in hand embroidery.

How do I keep them sharp?

Cut only threads with them, close the cover after use and wipe lint remnants off the blades from time to time.
