Product description
Stork scissors: the classic design of embroidery scissors
Embroidery scissors in the shape of a stork – the traditional design identified with embroidery and hand sewing. The thin, pointed blades are the stork's "beak", and the ornate handles form the body and legs. The scissors are available in two shades: silver and gold.
The fine tip slips under a single thread and lets you cut close to the fabric without harming it, so these are useful scissors for hand embroidery, cross-stitch and cleaning thread ends. The prominent ornamentation also makes them a cheerful gift for someone who embroiders.

Where the stork shape came from
According to the tradition accepted in the embroidery world, the stork shape began in a midwives' tool for dealing with the umbilical cord, and the stork, which is identified with birth, became its ornament. Many midwives did embroidery and sewing between births, and the tool moved over time to the sewing box. In the National Museum of American History in Washington, one such tool is preserved that belonged to a midwife from Sicily.
Today stork scissors are a familiar symbol of hand embroidery, and are bought both as a work tool and as a gift.
