• Hold the ruler with one hand along the curve, and mark with the other.

• Bend gradually, without folding the ruler at a sharp angle.

• Mark with a thin pencil on paper, and a sewing chin on a cloth.

• Keep straight and flat, away from heat source.

Common mistakes

• A sharp fold that leaves a constant bending bar in place.

• Use a short ruler for a long curve, such as a hip line. Where a longer ruler is preferable.

• Measure from the edge of the ruler instead of the zero line.
