Product description
Mid-size tailor's shears: 22.9 cm for most fabric work
Tailor's shears, 22.9 cm (9 inches) long. This is the middle size in the series: long enough for cutting whole patterns, and still comfortable for curves and corners. The blades are made of stainless steel and suit fabrics, denim, canvas and thin leather.
The black handles in an asymmetric design give a comfortable grip in prolonged work, and the joining screw keeps the movement smooth and stable. If you buy one pair from the series, this is usually the model to start with.
How this model differs from our similar models
20.3 cm: the lightest and most compact in the series, for control in curves and details
22.9 cm (the model on this page): the in-between size for most fabric work
25.4 cm: a long blade for thick fabrics, layers and large patterns
Common uses
Cutting patterns for shirts, dresses and skirts
Cutting denim, canvas and thin leather
Curves and corners
Linings and medium fabrics
Repair work in the studio

Tips for clean cutting
Long closings in straight lines: use most of the blade's length and not just the tip
Short closings in curves: turn the fabric slightly after each closing
Caring for the blade: clean off lint and return them to closed packaging
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Cutting paper with the fabric scissors: dulls the blade
Lifting the fabric while cutting: the line comes out crooked
Cutting pins and cardboard: damages the fit between the blades
Cutting denim and thick fabrics: what's important to know
9-inch scissors also suit thick fabrics, but correct technique protects the blades:
One layer at a time: with heavy denim and canvas, cut one layer, and not folded fabric
Start close to the screw: close to the joining point there is more power, so thick seams and double hems are cut at the back of the blade
Don't twist the scissors: twisting while cutting hard fabric pushes the blades apart and wears the screw
Clean off lint: denim fabrics leave fibers between the blades, so wipe them after the work
This way the same pair can serve both regular garment fabrics and thick fabrics, without the sharpness quickly suffering.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Can jeans be cut with them?
Yes. The stainless steel blades also suit jeans, canvas and thin leather.
What are they made of?
Stainless steel blades and black plastic handles.
Are the scissors suitable for long work?
Yes. The asymmetrical handle distributes the force between the thumb and the other fingers and reduces fatigue.
Are the scissors suitable for left-handed users?
The asymmetrical handle is shaped for the right hand. Someone who cuts with the left hand will prefer dedicated left-handed scissors, in which the blade order is reversed.
Can I cut pattern paper with them?
Not recommended. Paper dulls the blade faster than fabric, so it is a good idea to keep a separate pair for paper and keep the tailor's shears for fabric only.
How do I keep the scissors sharp?
Cut only fabric, wipe after working with interfacing or coated fabrics, add a drop of oil to the screw from time to time and keep them closed in a dry place.
