Product description
ORGAN Universal Needles, Size 100/16
ORGAN home sewing machine needles. ORGAN is a Japanese needle maker from the city of Ueda in Nagano Prefecture. The needles are in the 130/705H system with a universal point, which is slightly rounded and suits most woven fabrics. Each pack has 5 needles in size 100/16. This is a thick needle, for heavy fabrics and layers.
The needle system: will it fit your machine
The 130/705H system, also called HAx1 or 15x1, is the system used by most home sewing machines: Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota, home Juki and more. The needle shank has a flat side, which on most machines faces the back, so the needle cannot be inserted the wrong way round. Industrial machines use other systems, such as DBx1, so these needles do not fit them. Home overlockers and coverstitch machines sometimes use a special version of the system, so check the machine manual.
Common uses
Sewing denim, canvas and upholstery fabrics.
Coats, fabric bags and outdoor fabrics.
Several layers of fabric, such as a denim hem.
Seams with thicker thread than usual.
Who it's for
Sewers of jeans and bags, upholsterers working on a home machine, and alteration shops. For wholesale orders: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
Pro tips
Sew a few centimeters on a scrap of the same fabric before starting, and check the seam on both sides.
Match the thread to the needle: the thread should pass freely through the eye and the groove along the needle.
Return used needles to a separate compartment in the pack; don't mix them with new ones.
Common mistakes
Sewing for months with the same needle. A dull needle pulls threads and skips stitches.
Using a universal needle on fine, stretchy knit fabric. Such fabrics need a ballpoint needle.
Sewing over pins. The needle hits the pin and breaks or bends.
How to choose a size
The first number is the needle thickness in hundredths of a millimeter, and the second is the American number. The higher the number, the thicker the needle and the heavier the fabric it suits:
70/10: Fine fabrics: chiffon, organza, silk, lining and fine cotton.
80/12: Light to medium fabrics: cotton, poplin, viscose, crepe and bed linen. The range for most jobs.
90/14: Medium to heavy fabrics: linen, gabardine, light wool, corduroy and curtain fabrics.
100/16: Heavy fabrics: denim, canvas, upholstery fabrics, coats and thick layers.
All ORGAN sizes, and needles for knits, can be found in Home sewing machine needles. A full needle-selection guide is in Needles.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the size of the needles?
100/16: thickness 1.00 mm. A thick needle for heavy fabrics.
Which fabrics is a 100/16 needle suitable for?
Jeans, canvas, upholstery fabrics, coats and thick layers.
Can I sew thin fabric with a 100/16 needle?
Not advisable. It will leave holes in thin fabric and may pull it inward.
Which needle suits a jeans hem?
A 100/16 needle. When going over thick seams, slow the machine and turn the handwheel by hand.
What is the difference between 100/16 and 90/14?
100/16 is thicker and stronger and suits heavy fabrics. 90/14 suits medium fabrics.
Which machines are the needles suitable for?
Most home sewing machines that work with the 130/705H system (HAx1 or 15x1): Singer, Brother, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff, Toyota and more. They are not suitable for industrial machines.
How many needles are in the pack?
5 needles in the pack.
How often should I change a sewing machine needle?
At the start of every project, whenever you switch to a different type of fabric, and right after the needle has hit a pin, zipper or button. A click with every stitch, skipped stitches or breaking thread are signs that the needle is dull.
How do you insert a needle into a home machine?
Lower the presser foot, raise the needle to its highest point and loosen the clamp screw. Insert the needle all the way, with the flat side of the shank facing the back in most machines, and tighten the screw.
Can I buy a quantity for a business or a school?
Yes. For a wholesale order: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.
