Product description

Solid wood pressing tool: a rigid surface for corners and narrow seams

The shaped pressing tool is made entirely of solid wood, with no padding and no fabric cover. The top surface, 19 cm long, tapers to a thin tip and is joined to the wooden base by an open arch. In tailoring equipment such a tool is commonly called a point presser. You use it to open and press seam allowances in places a padded pad can't reach: a collar corner, the tip of a lapel, cuff corners, the end of a waistband and short seams inside a garment that has already been sewn.

Why wood and not a pad? A rigid surface doesn't sink under the iron, so seam allowances open in a sharp, flat line. You put the pointed end into the corner from the inside, press the seam allowances open over it and iron. Later, when you turn the collar to the right side, the corner comes out sharp and thin, not thick and rounded.

The total height is 7 cm, and the base is 15 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. The arch between the surface and the base serves as a comfortable grip, and leaves room for the part of the garment that stays under the surface while you work.

How this model differs from our other pressing pads

  • Shaped wooden pressing tool (the model on this page): Solid wood with no padding, a surface 19 cm long with a pointed end. For opening seams in corners and narrow sections

  • Long pressing pad on a wooden post: A padded, tapered pad 31 cm long, for rounded areas such as a sleeve cap

  • Mushroom pressing ham: A padded dome on a wooden post, for puff sleeves and shoulders

  • Compact sleeve board: A padded board about 28 cm long, for cuffs and sleeve ends

Common uses

  • Opening seams in collar and lapel corners before turning

  • Corners of cuffs, tabs and button plackets

  • Ends of a waistband and a skirt waistband

  • Corners of an angled hem, in curtains, tablecloths and home textiles

  • Short seams inside a closed garment, such as attaching a lining

  • Corners in decorative pillows and fabric bags

Who the tool is for

  • Tailors: For jackets, coats and suits, where the lapel and collar corner is seen immediately

  • Seamstresses and designers: For shirt collars and cuffs

  • Home textile sewists: For corners of curtains, tablecloths and pillows

  • Fashion design schools and sewing classes: A basic tool for every station; for bulk orders you can contact us

Professional tips for working with a wooden pressing tool

  • Trim before pressing: Trim the seam allowance at the corner diagonally, and only then open it over the pointed end

  • Press before turning: Press the seam allowances open on the wood while the garment is still inside out, and only then turn it and press the visible side

  • Steam in moderation: Wood doesn't absorb steam like a pad. Use steam gently and wipe moisture off the wood at the end of the work

  • A pressing cloth for delicate fabrics: With dark fabrics and satin, place a thin pressing cloth, so no shine remains along the seam line

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Pressing the corner from the outside only: If the seam allowances weren't opened from the inside, they pile up inside the corner and it comes out thick and rounded

  • Opening seams on a soft pad: The surface sinks and the seam allowances don't open all the way. For corners and short seams, a rigid wooden surface is better

  • No trimming: Wide seam allowances at the corner create a bulge even after good pressing

  • Leaving the iron on the wood: A hot iron standing on the wood for a long time may mark it. Press in short presses

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of the wooden pressing pad?

The top surface is 19 cm long and the total height is 7 cm. The base is 15 cm long and 5.5 cm wide.

What is a wooden pressing tool with a pointed end used for?

For opening and pressing seam allowances in narrow places: collar corners, flap ends, cuff corners and the ends of belts, before turning them to the visible side.

Why is there no padding on it?

A hard wooden surface does not sink under the iron, so the seam allowances open in a sharp, flat line. On a padded pad they stay rounded, and the corner comes out thick.

What is the pressing pad made of?

It is made entirely of solid wood: the top surface, the arch and the base, with no padding and no fabric cover.

How do you press a collar corner with it?

Trim the seam allowance at the corner, insert the pointed end into the corner while the collar is inside out, press the seam allowances open and iron. Then turn the collar and press the visible side.

What is this tool called in English?

A wooden pressing tool with a pointed end is known in English as a Point Presser. It is used for opening seams and pressing the corners of collars, flaps and cuffs.

Can I iron on it with steam?

Yes. Press with steam and leave the fabric on the wood until it cools slightly, so the seam stays flat and open.

How do I open a seam with the tool?

Place the seam along the narrow edge, open the seam allowances with your fingers to both sides and press from above. The surrounding fabric stays outside the tool and does not get pressure marks.

How do I take care of the wood?

Wipe with a dry cloth, do not soak in water and do not leave the tool near a direct heat source. That way the wood stays smooth and stable.

Can I order several units for a studio or a sewing school?

Yes. For bulk orders you can contact us.
